According to market sources, Shell plans to restart its steam cracker in Moerdijk, the Netherlands by the end of the third quarter of 2015. The cracker has been offline due to a steam leak since October 2, when the company declared force majeure on the styrene output from the site.

The company has reportedly restarted its POSM-1 plant at the site while the POSM-2 unit will be rebuilt and reopened between December 2015 and March 2016.

The company’s Moerdijk facility is able to produce 900,000 tons/year of ethylene, 550,000 tons/year of benzene and 550,000 tons/year of styrene.
