Shin Etsu lifts force majeure on PVC in Pernis, Netherlands

According to market reports on August 25, Japan’s Shin Etsu has lifted the force majeure on PVC supplies from its 450,000 tons/year plant in Pernis, the Netherlands.

Shin Etsu declared a force majeure on PVC k67 supplies from the plant on July 30 due to a lack of ethylene supply from Shell’s Moerdijk cracker following a force majeure on ethylene and propylene output. A power outage that occurred at the company’s Pernis refinery in late July had forced Shell to declare force majeure from its Moerdijk cracker.

Shin Etsu resumed operations at its Pernis PVC plant on August 10, but kept the force majeure in place at the time. Meanwhile, Shell’s force majeure on the monomer supplies from its Moerdijk cracker remained in place as of August 25 although the company has mostly resumed operations at its Pernis refinery, according to sources.
