Shintech to complete Louisiana ethylene plant by 2018

Shintech aims to complete the construction of a proposed ethylene unit in Louisiana in the first half of 2018, according to a statement on Shin-Etsu Chemical’s website. Shintech is a subsidiary of Shin-Etsu. The estimated value of the unit was reported at $1.4 billion and once the unit is completed, it is expected to have a production capacity of 500,000 tons/year.

The company awarded a contract for the basic engineering and construction services of the unit to Toyo Engineering Corporation while the ethylene process technology will be provided by Lummus Technology.

Meanwhile, the company is currently conducting debottlenecking projects at its VCM and PVC plants in Louisiana. The company has two PVC plants in Louisiana with production capacities of a 590,000 tons/year in Addis and 600,000 tons/year in Plaquemine.
