According to media reports, China’s state-controlled oil and chemical company Sinochem will expand the capacity of its only fully-owned 240,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in Quanzhou in Fujian province by 60,000 bpd and build new petrochemical units by 2018. The 43.3 billion yuan ($6.8 billion) expansion project was approved by the Fujian Development and Reform Commission on December 7.

In addition to increasing its refinery’s capacity by 25% to 300,000 bpd, Sinochem will also build 13 chemical units including a 1 million tons/year ethylene cracker, a 400,000 tons/year PE unit, an 800,000 tons/year PX unit and a 300,000 tons/year aromatics extraction plant.
