ChemOrbis Import Statistics reveal that India’s PP imports in November 2023 experienced a considerable downfall of 30% compared to October to stand at 116,710 tons, which marked the lowest figure since June 2023. Additionally, November PP imports were also down by nearly 24% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In November, the United Arab Emirates maintained its position as India’s top PP supplier for the second month in a row with 33.700 tons. The country was followed by Singapore (22.810 tons), Saudi Arabia (22.720 tons), Thailand (8.320 tons), and South Korea (6.610 tons). Compared to October, the country’s imports from the United Arab Emirates were notably down by around 21%.

On the other side of the coin, the cumulative volume of PP imports from January to November was up by 23% from the same period of 2022, standing at around 1.6 million tons despite the consistent decline observed after August 2023. In the first eleven month of 2023, the United Arab Emirates (472.360 tons), Saudi Arabia (379.050 tons), Singapore (304.570 tons), Thailand (97.140 tons), and Oman (96.530 tons) became the top five PP suppliers of India. China, by contrast with its 4th position in 2022, didn’t take a place in the largest five suppliers, and ranked the 7th instead.

PP Copolymer

In a product-based examination, India’s PP copolymer imports in November witnessed a slight decrease of around 1.4% from October to stand at 33.080 tons. On a yearly comparison, November PP copolymer imports were nearly unchanged with a decline of around 0.3% . However, the cumulative volume of PP copolymer imports from January to November 2023 experienced a remarkable increase of 19% with 385.570 tons when compared to the same period of 2022.

India’s top five PP copolymer suppliers in November were Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. The largest PP copolymer suppliers throughout the January-November period were also the same countries, in the same order with 133.480 tons, 121.370 tons, 47.250 tons, 39.330 tons, and 12.640 tons of contributions to the total volume.

PP Homopolymer

In November 2023, India’s PP homopolymer imports saw a sharp decrease of over 37% compared to October. The volume of imported homo-PP stood at 83.630 tons, indicating the lowest figure observed since August 2022. On a year-on-year basis, homo-PP imports experienced a decline of nearly 31% from the same month of the year before. On the other hand, when comparing the first eleven months of 2022, and 2023, the latter was up by 25% to reach 1.2 million tons.

India’s five primary homo-PP suppliers in November were the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, and China. Oman lost its 5th place that it took in October and ranked the 10th.
