Styrene prices plunge in Europe and Asia

Spot prices have been falling steadily since early March in Asia, posting cumulative decreases of around $230/ton since early March on a weekly average of ChemOrbis Price Wizard. The spot market’s latest levels were reported at $1145/ton FOB South Korea and to $1170-1175/ton CFR China. Stagnant demand and ample supplies continue to weigh down on styrene prices, according to traders.

The European styrene market has also been under downward pressure from improving supplies and plunging Asian prices. The cumulative losses in Europe were larger since early March at more than $370/ton on a weekly average based on ChemOrbis Price Wizard. Spot prices were last reported at around $1155/ton FOB NWE as of the end of last week. This is expected to result in three-digit-decreases in April styrene contracts.
