Supply concerns grow in European PVC market on shutdowns
Sources reported that Poland’s Anwil is facing production issues at its 470,000 tons/year PVC plant while Japan’s Shin-Etsu’s wholly-owned subsidiaries, Cires and Shintech will have turnarounds in the March-April period. Located in Pernis, Netherlands, Shintech’s PVC plant has a nameplate capacity of 450,000 tons/year while Cires’ plant in Portugal is able to produce 200,000 ton/year of PVC, according to Shin-Etsu’s website.
However, no further details regarding the exact duration of the shutdowns are available at the time of publication.
“We received more requests for k67 this month and demand has also improved thanks to limited supply levels. We had a less-than-normal allocation from Anwil since the producer received less ethylene from its supplier. Therefore, its quotas are reduced for this month. We expect prices to increase by the same amount in March,” said a distributor offering on behalf of a Central European producer.
A trader operating in Turkey also confirmed that Anwil has some production outages now.
