Taiwan’s Formosa switches to use LPG as feedstock

According to market sources, Taiwan’s Formosa has switched to use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in lieu of naphtha for around 15% of its feedstocks for its steam crackers as of early May because of stronger margins on ethylene production. The company reportedly will continue to use LPG in the next few months.

The company has three naphtha-based steam crackers in Mailiao, with a combined ethylene production capacity of 2.93 million tons/year.
