Thai traders: Local PP, PE prices rise given tight supplies
According to a trader, both PP and PE prices in the local market increased around THB1000/ton ($28/ton) from a week earlier. “Producers are reluctant to lower their offers to the local market as supplies are limited for both PP and PE. We believe that local prices will not witness any decreases in the next couple of months in the face of supply limitations. However, increase amounts may not be as significant as players expect since demand is not that strong yet,” he commented.
A second trader also reported that local prices have firmed up around THB1000/ton ($28/ton) on the week in the domestic PP and PE markets. He said, “Local supplies for PP and LLDPE are limited. However, a local producer is still willing to give discounts of around THB500-1000/ton ($19-28/ton) on their offers as demand remains stagnant. Most buyers are still not in a hurry to replenish their stocks.”
Local PP prices currently stand at THB36500-37500/ton ($1027-1055/ton) for homo-PP raffia and at THB37000-38000/ton ($1041-1069/ton) for homo-PP film, all on an FD Thailand, cash equivalent basis.
In the PE market, prices are currently reported at THB43500/ton ($1224/ton) for LDPE film, at THB43500-45000/ton ($1224-1267/ton) for LLDPE c4 film and at THB43000-45000/ton ($1210-1267/ton) for HDPE film, all on an FD Thailand, cash equivalent basis.
