Total extends force majeure on styrene output from Gonfreville

Total has extended force majeure on styrene output from its Gonfreville plant on an industrial action in France and logistical challenges stemming from the disrupted railway traffic in Europe, two distributors of the producer reported. The company was not available for comments during the time of press. The company had previously declared force majeure on styrene supplies by late August due to a technical issue at a heat exchanger before they were reported to have resumed production at the unit last week.

France is experiencing a nationwide strike against the changes in the labor law while industry participants are also facing logistical issues in the wake of the closure of the railway line between Karlsruhe and Basel, which paralyzed the rail transportation.

Ineos Styrolution also declared force majeure on its PS and ABS deliveries to Switzerland and Italy on September 15 due to the same transportation problems.
