According to market sources, France’s Total Petrochemicals is planning to acquire a 68% stake in Germany’s Polyblend, a subsidiary of Polymer-Chemie. Polyblend is currently able to produce 80,000 tons/year of PP and PE compounds which Total currently does not offer.

Meanwhile, Total is also building two production lines with a total capacity of 30,000 tons/year at its Carling site in France. The lines are slated for launch in the spring of 2016. The company had previously announced that it would close its 330,000 tons/year steam cracker at the Carling site by the end of 2015 and develop new activities in polymers and hydrocarbons.
