Trump delays Mexico, Canada tariffs, keeps pressure on China

According to media reports, US President Donald Trump suspended planned tariffs on Mexico and Canada for 30 days after securing border security and crime enforcement agreements. The move temporarily halts the 25% tariffs set to take effect on February 4. Meanwhile, tariffs on Chinese imports remain scheduled to start today.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum agreed to step up border controls in response to Trump’s demands. Canada committed to deploying new technology and personnel along its border, along with joint efforts to combat organized crime.
Despite the reprieve for Mexico and Canada, China still faces 10% tariffs set to take effect at 12:01 a.m. ET on Tuesday. China vowed to challenge the tariffs at the World Trade Organization but left room for negotiations. Trump also hinted at potential tariffs on the EU but suggested Britain could be exempt.
