Turkey’s August polymer imports hit all-time-high
The top polymer exporters to Turkey in July were Saudi Arabia with 85,412 tons, followed by South Korea (57,142 tons), Iran (40,788 tons), Egypt (35,329 tons) and Belgium (21,528 tons).
In August, homo-PP imports were up by nearly 14% to 148,584 tons compared to July while they were 4% higher from the same month of 2016. Saudi Arabia remained the top supplier of homo-PP in August with 46,724 tons, followed by Egypt (27,336 tons), South Korea (14,138 tons), India (11,487 tons) and Israel (8,733 tons).
For PP copolymer, Turkey’s August imports surged by almost 13% on the month at 36,075 tons while they also increased 23% compared with the same month of 2016. South Korea remained as the top PP copolymer supplier to Turkey with 13,148 tons in August.
Imports for LLDPE, meanwhile, dropped by 5.4% on the month but rose 30% year-over-year to 44,803 tons in August. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier of LLDPE for another month with 15,354 tons, followed by Iran (11,049 tons) and Singapore (5,668 tons). In the meantime, Turkey imported 6,211 tons of mLLDPE, for which ChemOrbis has just started to keep records, down 18% in August from July.
Imports for LDPE were up 6% month over month to 23,261 tons in August after falling for two months in a row. Imports were slightly down by 1% compared to the same month of 2016, meanwhile. Belgium displaced Azerbaijan to become the top LDPE exporter to Turkey with 2,761 tons, followed by Israeli (2,555 tons) and Spain (2,300 tons).
HDPE imports were up by 15% in August on a monthly basis to 61,260 tons while they were up more visibly by 26.8% from a year earlier. Saudi Arabia displaced Iran to be the top supplier with 13,308 tons, followed by Iran (10,317 tons) and Uzbekistan (9,119 tons)
Turkey’s PVC imports increased by 21% from a month earlier to 63,442 tons in August. On a yearly basis, PVC imports were up 7.4%. The top PVC suppliers were France (11,268 tons), the US (8,374 tons) and Mexico (5,614 tons).
Regarding styrenics, Turkey imported 25,870 tons of PS in August, up by 18% on the month and 23% on the year. Belgium remained as the top supplier with 7,062 tons of exports. ABS imports surged 9.5% month over month to 13,002 tons in August, which also indicated a 17.7% increase on a yearly basis. South Korea remained as the top supplier for the eight consecutive months with 8,660 tons in August.
Meanwhile, Turkey’s August imports for PET bottle increased by 19% month over month to 25,958 tons in August. They spiked 94% on a yearly basis.
