Turkey’s March polymer imports up 7.8% on month, down 6.3% on year

According to ChemOrbis Import Statistics, Turkey’s total polymer imports rose by 7.8% in March on a monthly basis to 415,188 tons. On a yearly basis, however, the country’s polymer imports decreased by 6.3%.

The top polymer exporters to Turkey in March were Saudi Arabia with 83,479 tons, followed by Iran (40,292 tons), South Korea (31,448), Egypt (22,589 tons) and Belgium (20,729 tons).

In March, homo-PP imports were up by 27.5% to 152,545 tons compared with the previous month while they also increased by about 3.4% from the same month of 2016. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier of homo-PP in March with 47,821 tons, followed by Egypt (19,157 tons), Israel (10,919 tons) and Iran (10,480 tons).

For PP copolymer, Turkey’s March imports were up by 13% on the month at 25,862 tons while they were down by 13% compared with the same month of 2016. Saudi Arabia was the top PP copolymer supplier to Turkey with 5,402 tons in March.

Imports for LLDPE increased by 5.7% on the month to 36,922 tons in March while they moved down by 5.1% on a yearly basis. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier of LLDPE for another month with 10,084 tons.

Imports for LDPE rose by around 7.7% month over month to 27,825 tons in March while they also increased by around 21.7% compared with the same month of 2016. The top three exporters were Azerbaijan (4,308 tons), Saudi Arabia (4,024 tons) and Sweden (3,372 tons). March HDPE imports increased by 22% on a monthly basis to 60,561 tons while they were down by 16.4% from a year earlier. The top three exporters were Iran (14,737 tons), Saudi Arabia (13,598 tons) and Uzbekistan (6,988 tons).

Turkey’s PVC imports were down by 35.6% from a month earlier to 46,619 tons in March. On a yearly basis, PVC imports also moved down by about 14.5%. France was at the top of the March PVC import list with 9,454 tons, followed by the USA (6,084 tons) and Mexico (4,623 tons).

Turkey imported 21,300 tons of PS in March, up by about 40% on the month and while PS imports were down by 27.5% on the year. Belgium remained as the top supplier with 6,618 tons of exports. ABS imports increased by 25% month over month to 10,331 tons in March while they were down by 23% on a yearly basis. South Korea remained as the top supplier with 6,081 tons.

Meanwhile, imports for PET bottle decreased by around 6.6% month over month to 14,106 tons in March while they increased by 75% on a yearly basis.
