Turkey’s polymer imports rise 11.4% on year in February

According to ChemOrbis Import Statistics, Turkey’s total polymer imports increased about 11.4% in February on a yearly basis to reach 367,121 tons from 329,534 tons in February 2015. On a monthly basis, the country’s polymer imports edged up around 0.1% in February from the 366,773 tons in January.

The top polymer exporters to Turkey in February were Saudi Arabia with 72,999 tons, followed by South Korea (36,704 tons), Egypt (27,606 tons), Iran (26,289 tons) and India (24,194 tons).

In February, homo-PP imports fell around 0.4% to 128,814 tons compared with the previous month while imports surged about 28.9% from the same month of 2015. Saudi Arabia remained the top supplier to Turkey with 41,129 tons, followed by Egypt with 24,462 tons and India with 17,857 tons. For PP copolymer, Turkey’s February imports edged down about 1.5% to 23,221 tons from the previous month while imports rose around 10.3% from the same month of 2015. South Korea was reported to be the top PP copolymer supplier to Turkey with 6,430 tons in February.

Imports for LLDPE increased 8.7% on the month to 28,147 tons in February while they fell around 7% on a yearly basis. Saudi Arabia was the top supplier of LLDPE for another month with 10,430 tons.

Imports for HDPE and LDPE moved in different directions on a monthly basis in February. LDPE imports jumped about 40% month over month to 21,294 tons while also increasing around 4.3% compared with the same month of 2015. The tops three exporters were Azerbaijan (4,187 tons), Qatar (2,310 tons) and Saudi Arabia (2,131 tons). February HDPE imports, however, declined about 10% on a monthly basis to 50,800 tons while imports for HDPE climbed around 1.5% on a yearly basis. The top three exporters were Saudi Arabia (13,056 tons), South Korea (10,824 tons) and Iran (9,565 tons).

Turkey’s PVC imports rose around 3.6% from a month earlier to reach 58,715 tons in February. On a yearly basis, meanwhile, February PVC imports climbed about 1.7%. France stood at the top of February PVC import list with 11,043 tons, followed by Mexico (9,104 tons) and Spain (6,718 tons).

Turkey imported 18,020 tons of PS in February, down about 6.6% on the month and 15.9% on the year. Belgium remained the top supplier with 3,829 tons. ABS imports, meanwhile, plunged about 15.9% month over month to 9,125 tons in February while imports surged 21.4% on a yearly basis from 7,512 tons in February 2015. South Korea remained the top supplier with 4,798 tons.

Meanwhile, imports for PET bottle decreased around 16.1% month over month to 9,409 tons in February while imports jumped by 106.1% from the 4,565 tons in the same month of 2015.
