According to data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), construction output in the UK picked up in March following a period of weakness that began in late 2014. Construction output increased 3.9% in March after declining 0.3% in the previous month.

The increase was attributed to a gain of 20% in non-housing repair and maintenance work while private sector house building posted the first increase seen since September in March. Construction of new homes rose 1.3%.

However, the data also revealed that UK’s construction output fell 1.1% in the first quarter. House building also declined 3.4% in the first three months, posing the largest decline in three years.
