UK plans to apply double charge on plastic bags

According to a statement from the UK’s Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, the 5p charge for single-use plastic carrier bag will be extended to all retailers and increased to 10p to cut their use further.
Under a consultation launched on December 27, the Government also plans to extend the plastic carrier bag charge, which is currently applied only to big businesses, to all shops.
The latest announcement followed the country’s new strategic approach, which may force producers to pay the full costs of collecting and sorting material for recycling.
The 5p charge was introduced on October 2015 in the UK.
