UK retail sales fall beat estimates in February

According to data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), UK retail sales beat estimates in February as weakening inflation boosted consumer confidence. The country’s retail sales increased 0.7% month over month in March while economists’ initial estimates called for an increase of 0.4%. UK’s retail sales excluding auto fuel climbed 0.7% after declining 0.3% in the previous month.

On a yearly basis, retail sales were up 5.7% in February after increasing 5.9% in January, posting the 23rd consecutive month of yearly growth. Economists’ initial estimates called for a 4.7% gain. The country’s retail sales excluding auto fuel climbed 5.1% in February compared with the same period of the previous year.
