US Olin reports sharp profit decline in Q1
The Chlor Alkali Products and Vinyls segment delivered earnings of $78.3 million, slightly above last year’s $76.6 million, driven by higher volumes. However, gains were partially offset by weaker ethylene dichloride (EDC) pricing and increased costs. Segment sales rose to $924.5 million, up from $884.6 million in Q1 2024.
Olin delayed a planned maintenance turnaround to meet stronger-than-expected chlorine demand amid industry outages. The company raised its full-year cost savings outlook to $50–$70 million and lowered capital spending plans by $25 million. Chemical segment performance in Q2 is expected to remain steady despite delayed maintenance costs.
