US TPC Group’s petchem plant rocked by major blast

According to an initial report published on the company’s website, Houston-based TPC Group Inc’s petrochemical plant in Port Neches, Texas was hit by a major explosion early this morning. The fire occurred in the processing unit of the plant, the company specified.
TPC reported that the fire is still ongoing but firefighters are continuously working to extinguish the blaze, during which three workers were injured.
The fire-hit plant has a production capacity of more than 900 million pounds (408,233 tons/year) of butadiene and other chemicals, according to the company’s website.
