According to the data from US Commerce Department, durable goods orders in the US decreased by 0.7% in April after a revised increase of 2.3% and four consecutive monthly increases. However, the amount of the decrease beat the estimates of a fall of 1.4%.

The decline in durable goods orders in April was driven by a fall of 1.2% in orders for transportation equipment in April following a rise of 5.3% in March. Orders for non-defense aircraft and parts dropped by 9.2% in April after a jump of 15.4% in March.

Excluding the drop in orders for transportation equipment, durable goods orders posted a smaller decrease of 0.4% after a rise of 0.8% in March. This stood quite below the estimates of a rise of 0.4%.
