US factory orders fall in May

According to data released by the US Commerce Department, US factory orders recorded a decrease of 1% in May after two consecutive months of increased. The decrease in May was attributed to weak demand for transportation and defense capital goods.

Orders for non-defense capital goods excluding aircraft posted a decrease of 0.4% in May. Durable goods orders decreased 2.3%.

Demand for mining and energy-related equipment was down by 5.8% following a 20.8% plunge in April.
On the other hand, bookings for nondurable goods increased 0.3%.
