According to data released by the US Commerce Department, the country’s factory orders increased in May by 0.8% from a drop of 0.3% in April beat the economists’ estimates of a decrease of 0.5%.

This rise stemmed from an increase of 1.9% in transportation equipment for the fourth month in a row in May.

However, orders for durable goods orders were down for two successive months by 1.1% in May from a decrease of 0.9% in the previous month. This drop was mainly driven by the decreases in non-defense orders and in orders in transportation by 0.6% and 3.4%, respectively.
