According to a preliminary purchasing managers’ index (PMI) compiled by Markit Economics, manufacturing in the US grew at its fastest pace since November in February. Markit’s PMI for the US manufacturing sector increased to a reading of 54.3 in February from a final reading of 53.9 in January. Any reading above 50 indicates expansion. Initial estimates called for a reading of 53.6 in a survey conducted by Reuters.

According to Markit, February figures pointed to a sustained improvement for the country’s manufacturing sector. The report showed that output rose at the fastest pace since October and rose to a reading of 56 from 55.7 in January while employment declined to a reading of 51.7 from a reading of 53.4 in the previous month, the slowest rate since July.
