US new home sales fall 11.5% in September

New home sales in the US declined 11.5% in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 468,000 units, posting the lowest level seen since November 2014, according to data released by the US Commerce Department. New home sales data for August was also revised down to an annualized pace of 529,000 units from the previously reported pace of 552,000 units. Economists’ initial estimates had called for an increase to a rate of 550,000 units in a survey by Reuters. On a yearly basis, new home sales increased 2.0% compared with the same month of 2014.

New home sales in the Northeast plunged 61.8%, hitting the lowest level seen since April while new home sales declined 8.3% in the Midwest. In the South and West, sales were also down by 8.7% and 6.7% in September, respectively.
