US retail sales follow stable trend in April

According to a report released by the US Commerce Department, retail sales followed a stable trend in April after rebounding in March. The country’s retail sales recorded an upwardly revised increase of 1.1% in March after March sales were initially reported up 0.9%. For April, retail sales were unchanged, missing economists’ expectations, which called for an increase of 0.2% in a survey conducted by Reuters.

Automobile sales declined 0.4% while sales at furniture stores were down 0.9% in April. Sales for electronics and appliances posted a decrease of 0.4% while building materials and garden equipment sales increased 0.3%.
