US retail sales rise in April

According to the US Commerce Department, overall retail sales in the US increased by 0.4% in April on a monthly basis after a revised rise of 0.1% in March. The market expectations were calling for a rise of 0.6%. On a yearly basis, however, the retail sales were up by 4.5% in April
The rise in the country’s retail sales in April was mainly led by a rebound in auto sales by 0.7% in April after a fall of 0.5% in March. Sales at service stations and at building materials stores also increased by 0.2% and 1.2% after respective drops 0.4% and 1.75% in March.
