According to players, Korea Petrochemical Industry Co. (KPIC) unexpectedly shut its steam cracker at Onsan, South Korea on September 5 given a technical issue. The cracker is able to produce 800,000 tons/year of ethylene and 500,000 tons/year of propylene.

A trader reported that the cracker’s propylene output was off-spec. The company burnt the output and now needs two days to clean up the cracker. “In case KPIC does not achieve on-spec production, then propylene supply may tighthen on part of the seller,” he claimed.
