A PET bottle manufacturer in Vietnam reported that local PET prices increased by VND2,000,000/ton ($93/ton) following an explosion at Sinopec’s subsidiary Nanjing Yangzi Petrochemical’s complex in China.

Sinopec shut its 200,000 tons/year MEG and 600,000 tons/year PTA plants after the incident. The plants are expected to remain offline for several weeks.

In Vietnam, local PET prices currently stand at VND25,500,000/ton FD Vietnam, cash including VAT ($1093/ton without VAT). The converter stated, “Local suppliers informed us that the market may post further increases in the near term.”
