Korea’s YNCC cuts styrene operating rates

A source from South Korea’s Yeochon Naphtha Cracking Center reported that, the company has cut the operating rates at its 285,000 tons/year capacity styrene monomer unit in Yeochon by 15%. The company is reportedly running the plant at 85% rates now.
Some market sources said that the possible reason on the rate cuts would be a shortage of the feedstock due to an outage at its No.2 steam cracker on Sunday along with weak production margins.
The company is currently running its 555,000 tons/year ethylene and 270,000 tons/year propylene capacity steam cracker at 94% rates. The cracker was shut on August 3 due to a compressor problem.
