LATEST NEWS: China's Oct polymer exports up 2% on month; yearly surge continues

China’s total polymer exports in October rose by nearly 2% from September, totaling over 1.1 million tons, according to ChemOrbis Export Statistics. The combined volume of PVC, PET, PP, and PE exports surged by 38% compared to the same period last year.

PET exports visibly up in Oct

In a product-based breakdown, the country’s total PET (bottle and textile grades combined) exports in October were visibly up by 11% from September, standing at 585,150 tons. Compared to October 2023, export volumes recorded a larger increase of more than 27%.

The top three destinations for Chinese PET were Vietnam (49,190 tons), Russia (35,480 tons), and the Nigeria (34,140 tons).

PVC exports down after 2-month gains

China’s PVC (S-PVC+E-PVC) exports declined by 16% from the previous month, totaling 241,840 tons in October, after steady increases in the previous two months. On a year-on-year basis, however, PVC exports surged by about 61%.

The top three export destinations for Chinese PVC in October were India (104,390 tons), Vietnam (19,500 tons), and Nigeria (19,420 tons). Meanwhile, the country’s PVC exports to India posted a remarkable decline of 31% when compared to September.

PP exports show slight monthly gain, strong yearly surge

China’s total PP exports in October were slightly up by 2% from the previous month, standing at 198,180. When compared to October 2023, on the other hand, this level indicated a surge of nearly 77%.

The leading destinations for Chinese PP were Vietnam (22,600 tons), Pakistan (16,380 tons), and Peru (16,060 tons).

PE exports see marginal gains

China’s PE exports rose marginally by 1% in October to 62,930 tons. On a year-on-year basis, PE exports were down by 4%.

The top three customers for Chinese PE in October were Vietnam (6,760 tons), Bangladesh (5,400 tons), and Russia (4,940 tons).
