Stats: Türkiye’s April polymer imports hit an all-time high

According to ChemOrbis Stats Wizard, Türkiye’s total April polymer imports pointed to the highest monthly volume since ChemOrbis started to compile data in 2003. The figure indicated an increase of 21% from the previous month and was up by 12.5% from April 2024. Saudi Arabia remained the number one polymer supplier, followed by the USA and South Korea. Meanwhile, the total import value at $717 million represented a 23% gain month over month.

PPH sees highest import volume since Oct 2024

The combined PPH and PP copolymer imports totaled around $300 million in April, up 26% on the month. The combined volume was slightly above 250,000 tons, up by 24% on the month, while the yearly comparison also indicated a rise.,

Homo-PP imports in April rose by 19.5% on the month, while they also climbed on the year. Saudi Arabia remained Türkiye’s top supplier, raising its market share from 32% to 41% on the year. The country was followed by Russia and South Korea. As a side note, the total import value rose monthly and yearly to $226 million.

For PP copolymer, Türkiye’s April imports spiked by 45% from the previous month, while the yearly comparison pointed to a more modest increase. Saudi Arabia and South Korea were the top two suppliers, with respective shares of 30% and 20% in total imports. The total value of copolymer imports was at $77 million, ChemOrbis Stats Wizard suggested.

Combined PE imports surge by 20% on month

In April, the combined LDPE, LLDPE, mLLDPE, and HDPE imports rose by 20% to 235,000 tons compared to March. The figure also indicated a gain, yearly. Value-wise, the combined imports climbed by the same amount from the previous month.

Imports of LDPE edged up by 2% on the month, while the volume pointed to the largest since July 2024. Spain remained the largest supplier with a 14% share, followed by France and Qatar in April.

Imports for LLDPE surged by 30% monthly, while they were slightly down on the year in April. The volume at 73.000 tons indicated the highest figure since May 2024. The USA remained the largest supplier, although its market share in total imports was down by 5% on the year to 38%.

Meanwhile, Türkiye’s April mLLDPE imports spiked by 58% from March, while the figure was also up from the same month last year. The USA remained the top supplier, lifting its sales from 6,000 tons to 9,000 tons from April 2024, followed by the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, the total value of LLDPE imports spiked by 50% on the month to $23 million.

April HDPE imports rose by 15% month-over-month to surpass 100,000 tons, although they indicated a fall on a yearly basis. Their value was up by 18% from March to $115 million. Saudi Arabia, the US, and Iran were the largest suppliers, respectively.

USA lifts PVC market share by 15% on year    

Türkiye’s April PVC imports climbed by 11% on the month and 6% compared to the same month of last year. Imports hit their highest volume since July 2013, ChemOrbis Stats Wizard suggested. The USA remained the biggest supplier with a 40% share in the total volume, up from 25% recorded in April 2024. Meanwhile, the value of PVC imports was $78 million, pointing to a 10% increase on the month.

PS and ABS volumes climb, EPS snaps 2-month uptrend

PS imports spiked by 39% in April from the previous month, to hit the highest volume since May 2024, while they showed a smaller increase year over year. The volume of imports was almost $20 million, showing a notable hike of 51% from March. Belgium, South Korea, and Taiwan were the largest PS suppliers of Türkiye.

In April, EPS imports snapped a two-month uptrend and edged down by 3% from March. They were also down on the year. Nonetheless, the value of April imports rose by 5% month over month. China and Austria were the top two in the list of top suppliers, while China’s market share rose by 8% to 32%, yearly.

ABS imports in April jumped by 61% on the month and reached a 9-month high. The yearly comparison showed a drop, on the other hand. South Korea remained by far the largest supplier, followed by Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. The value of imports was $28 million.

China stays largest PET bottle and textile supplier

April PET bottle imports posted a sharp increase of nearly 110% on the month, while the yearly comparison also indicated a large hike. China was by far the biggest suppliers with 11,000 tons and an 81% share in total imports, followed by Malaysia, and Egypt. The total value of imports reached $12 million. On the other hand, PET textile imports plunged by 43% from March in terms of both volume and value. China, India, and Malaysia were the main suppliers.

Data revealed that China remained Türkiye’s biggest import supplier for both PET grades in April. Its market share slumped by 29% for PET textile but climbed by 15% for PET bottle from April 2024.
