Stats: Türkiye’s Q2 polymer imports hit an all-time high

ChemOrbis Stats Wizard data showed that Türkiye’s total polymer imports jumped 18% in Q2 from the previous quarter and were up 14.5% from Q2 2024. The overall volume marked the highest quarterly level since ChemOrbis began compiling data in 2003. Between April and June, Saudi Arabia, the USA, South Korea, China, and Egypt were the top five suppliers.

Compared with Q2 last year, Saudi Arabia’s market share rose from 22% to 24%, while the USA increased its share from 14% to 15%. South Korea’s share in total polymer imports held steady at 11%. China gained 3%, climbing to the fourth spot from tenth. Egypt’s share fell by 1% to 5%, while Iran’s was down by the same amount to 6%.

PPH records gains on quarter, year    

Q2 homo-PP imports surged 20% from Q1 2025 and 17% from Q2 2024. Saudi Arabia remained the largest supplier, lifting its market share by 6% to 41% year over year. It was followed by South Korea and Russia, with respective shares of 16% and 9%. South Korea gained 3% in market share, while Russia’s share plunged from 17% a year earlier.

PP copolymer imports hit highest since Q3 2023
   
Türkiye’s Q2 PP copolymer imports indicated a 17% increase quarter on quarter and an 8% gain from Q2 2O24. Imports pointed to the largest quarterly volume since Q3 2023, ChemOrbis data suggested.

Saudi Arabia was the largest supplier, lifting its share from 25% to 29% year over year. It was followed by South Korea, which faced a 1% loss in its share to 21% from Q2 last year. Belgium was the third biggest PP copolymer source, with a steady share of 11%.

PVC volumes slightly down from Q1, but rise on year

In Q2, PVC imports edged down 2% from Q1 but rose 11% from the same period last year. The USA remained Türkiye’s top PVC supplier, increasing its share from 28% to 33% year over year. Norway climbed to second place from seventh a year earlier, with its share up 4% to 10%. South Korea followed, raising its share from 7% to 9%.

S. Arabia remains the top LDPE source despite a lower share
   
Türkiye’s LDPE imports in the second quarter of this year were up by 5% from the previous quarter and almost 11% from Q2 2024. Saudi Arabia was the largest supplier, although its share dropped by 5% to 13% on the year. It was followed by Qatar, with the country raising its share from 9% to 11% on the year. France was the third largest LDPE supplier, as the country’s market share rose by 7% to 11% compared to Q2 2024.

LLDPE breaks a record, mLLDPE also posts notable increases
   
Q2 LLDPE imports spiked 45.5% from Q1 2025, while posting a more modest 6% gain year on year. The US remained the largest supplier despite its share slipping from 41% to 39% compared to Q2 2024. Saudi Arabia followed, with its share down 1% to 31% of total imports. Iran, the third-largest supplier, increased its share from 4% to 7%.

Q2 mLLDPE imports jumped 38% from the previous quarter and 43% year on year, slightly exceeding 45,000 tons—the highest level since Q3 2022. The USA remained the top supplier, though its share slipped from 49% to 46% year over year.

The UAE increased its share from 13% to 18%, retaining second place, while the Netherlands followed, up 4% to 14% in Q2 2025.

US continues to lift its HDPE market share   

Türkiye’s HDPE imports in Q2 rose 8% from the previous quarter and 16% year on year. Saudi Arabia remained the largest supplier, though its share slipped from 24% to 23%. The US increased its share from 14% to 22%, becoming the second-largest source. Iran, the third-largest supplier, saw its share fall 3% to 11% year over year.

PS, EPS and ABS imports up q-o-q, decline yearly   

In April–June, PS imports rose 13% from the previous quarter but fell 7% year on year. Belgium, South Korea, and Iran were the top three suppliers, with respective shares of 46%, 20%, and 7%. Belgium’s share jumped 27%, while South Korea’s held steady at 20% year on year. Iran’s share plunged from 27% to 7%, pushing it down to third place from first in Q2 2024.

EPS imports in Q2 rose 7.5% from the previous quarter but slumped 39% year on year. Austria was by far the largest supplier with a 29% share, followed by Russia and China.

Türkiye’s Q2 ABS imports jumped 43% from Q1 2025 but fell 8% year on year. South Korea remained by far the biggest supplier, lifting its share by 1% to 60%. Saudi Arabia followed with a 13% share, unchanged from a year earlier, while Taiwan ranked third at 11%, up 3% year on year.

China remains by far the largest PET supplier    

PET bottle imports in Q2 2025 more than doubled, soaring over 150% both quarter on quarter and year on year. China, Egypt, and Malaysia were the top suppliers, with shares of 80%, 12%, and 2%, respectively. China’s share jumped from 66% to 80% year on year, while Egypt’s fell 8%, pushing it down to third place from second in the same period last year.

For PET textile, total Q2 imports rose 5% from the previous quarter but slipped 2.5% year on year. China and Malaysia were the top two suppliers, with shares of 38% and 23%, respectively. India increased its share from 5% to 15%, climbing to third place from fifth a year earlier.
